President Message

Mr. Upendra H. Sheth

After his inauguration on 20 January, 2017, President Donald Trump had issued an invite to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to visit the US. President has recently renewed an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the U S later this year and expressed his support for Modis economic reform agenda and emphasized his great respect for the people of India.

The Presidentís emphasis on respect for the people of india can be taken as significant as it comes after attacks on Indian nationals and Americans of India Origin in the U S and in the wake of President Trumpís call for America First and his anti-immigration stance. This could smoothen the path for visit by Prime Minister Modi to the U S later this year for a bilateral visit.

Indian foreign secretary Mr. S. Jaishanker while briefing on Indo-US relationship stated that the U S administrator has very positive view of India. Recent news regarding first round of talk between the US Trade Representativeís (USTR) office under the President Donald Trump administration and Indiaís commerce ministry which would kick off in next few days, would give Indian Government an opportunity to discuss itís apprehension on new work visa restrictions being considered by the U S Congress.

Another positive news about Indo-US relationships is the re-affirmation of Indiaís position as USís major defense partner by US national security advisor Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster recently during talks with his counterpart Ajit Doval and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It was the previous Obama administration that had designated India as major defense partner of the US last year and McMasterís reiteration signifies a continuation of policy by the Trump administration.

Womenís International day was celebrated on 8th March 2017, honouring three women achievers in their respective fields for their contribution to India Classical Music, entrepreneurship and Social Work.

The event was grand success as the same was attended by Ms Jennifer Larson, Deputy Principal Officer, U.S. Consulate General and members of IAS.
