I am extremely happy to assume responsibilities as the President of the prestigious organization, the Indo-American Society. I deem it a great privilege and honour particularly at a time when the two great democracies have come closer in many ways to work together for mutual benefits of both the countries, as well as for the well being of the world at large.
Personally I have always considered American people and their institutions as friends of India. I myself was influenced by institutions like Rockefeller Foundation of the USA and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research in establishing Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Co.Ltd. (Mahyco) in 1964. We can take genuine pride in stating that we also contributed our mite in the "Green Revolution" which was achieved in the late 60's and 70's and in sustaining it in the subsequent decades, from importers of food grains to exporters, we have come a long way.
Yet, there is a great need to have an ever green revolution to feed our large populace from limited resources of land. It has been possible to revolutionize cotton production in the country. Dubling the over all production from 130 lakh bales to 268 lakh bales in just five years. This happened mainly due to the new technologies introduced by Mahyco and adopted by the nation.
Under President George Bush-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leadership, both the countries have realized a new high in our relationships and cooperation in agriculture, health, defense, trade & commerce and peaceful use of atomic energy to meet our ever increasing energy requirements.
I fully believe in the IAS charter and endorse every word of it towards improving people-to-people understanding, in business-to-business and economic cooperation. I will use all my energy in promoting the IAS ideals.
I am hoping to meet each and every member of the IAS fraternity in the near future.
My very best wishes to every one of you, in this festive season.

The Indo-American Society was established by some far sighted leaders several years ago to forge closer relationship between the people of our two countries at a time when the mutual relationship was anything but friendly. My aim is to put this aspect on priority and recalibrate our programmes so that IAS will be able to play a catalyst role in the people to people relationship. In this I solicit the kind cooperation of all and look forward to your suggestions.
With best wishes,
President, Indo-American Society
