I walked into his class, a student who had always held leadership positions throughout school and college life. I never really had a problem speaking on a one to one basis. However I always got cold feet whenever I had to go up on stage .My mouth went dry and I went blank because of nervousness. This I realized would be a hindrance in my career since I was planning on coming to the states to pursue an MBA .The MBA program basically consists of case presentations in front of huge audiences. Today I am pursuing my MBA degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo. I owe all my grades and my presentation skills to the Public speaking program at the indo American society and most of all to Prof. Vishwanathan.
As I mentioned earlier, the course is different from other public speaking courses because it not only teaches u the A to Z of public speaking but it first develops the kind of personality and confidence that is required for effectively speaking in public. The course encourages freedom of thought and expression no matter how extreme your views maybe. Thus there is free flow of thought and the student is allowed to speak without any restrictions on the topic. The video recording of our final speeches enables us to see ourselves as others see us and thus enables us to judge what we are doing wrong and what we need to improve upon. Not only have I become more confident in the area of public speaking, but also I have learnt to live life to the fullest. And it is Prof.Vishwanathan who brings out the best in us. He teaches us to adopt a positive attitude in life and this enables us to feel good about ourselves. This in turn makes us confident and improves our public speaking abilities. In any MBA program there are students from various cultures and backgrounds. Such programs are usually a melting pot of exuberant knowledge and cultures. Extremely confident people from various cultures display their excellent public speaking abilities. Amidst such people, it is this public speaking class that enabled me to hold my own in such a competitive environment.
I recommend that such a public speaking course should be made mandatory for all students in school. This will enable them to shape their personalities from the very beginning. This course has taught me to proud of whom I am and unleash my potentials to the fullest".
